about
I don’t usually do covers. (It’s too easy for me to get sucked into writing my own songs anytime I have an instrument in my hands; which has its pros and cons I suppose.... needless to say, campfire jams are super awkward when everyone wants to play a song that every guitarist *should* know because I inevitably end up the deer in the headlights awkwardly navigating a fretboard while trying to keep up with lyrics I vaguely know... 😹 ANYWAYS, that being said - I’ve been trying to break the habit and look at covers as a chance to build technique and experiment without feeling artist’s guilt for not using that time for my passion projects instead. This one became a challenge track of sorts after a friend reminded me how much I love the Pixies and this song in particular. It’s available for free download + streaming on bandcamp. (It’s a cover... I’m not even sure what the current rules are with the distribution of such things...) If you love it and want to show appreciation for the effort that went into the creative process... donations to the cause are greatly appreciated at the moment because the struggle is real in my corner, and I know everyone is sick of hearing it...) Proceeds from album sales are going towards helping my father pay his medical expenses, keeping utilities on (which has been a struggle due to forces beyond our control) and feeding 20 large breed rescue and foster dogs that my family somehow accumulated over the past many years. I am a starving artist in the truest sense of the word. Sometimes I starve myself just so I can have gas money to get to WiFi to share my art with the world, as always.... with the free or ‘pay what you want’ feature activated so it can still be enjoyed by those deep in the struggle as well. — Every little bit helps at the moment though, and I can’t even begin to tell you how appreciative I’ve been of those who have been showing support for the album and such. Sometimes that $1.00 download is the thing that saves the day in ways I’m too embarrassed to admit publicly. If for nothing else; let this be your annual reminder to support your artist friends when you can. <3
lyrics
With your feet in the air
and your head on the ground
Try this trick and spin it, yeah
Your head will collapse
But there's nothing in it
And you'll ask yourself
Where is my mind?
Where is my mind?
Where is my mind?
Way out in the water
See it swimmin'
I was swimmin' in the Caribbean
Animals were hiding behind the rock
Except the little fish but they told me, he swears
Tryin' to talk to me, coy koi
Where is my mind?
Where is my mind?
Where is my mind?
Way out in the water
See it swimmin'

Castlebeat’s “VHS” offsets bright, jangly songs with smoky, lo-fi production, giving their pie-eyed melodies a sense of mystery. Bandcamp New & Notable May 7, 2018
The gorgeous new dreampop LP from Persica 3 is split into two halves, the first swirling and shoegazey, the latter quieter and moodier. Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 7, 2022
Entirely analog, lush melodic pop with a tender heart from L.A. artist Human Barbie sounds bigger than the bedroom project it is. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 22, 2020
Searing, driving post-punk with shoegaze's enormous wall of sound and garage-punk's catchy hooks from A Very Special Episode. Bandcamp New & Notable Jul 4, 2023
